The room always has four seats. A guest is any other model, invited for one answer. It reads the discussion so far, answers your message, and leaves. It keeps no memory, has no tools, reviews nobody and is reviewed by nobody, and it never counts toward agreement. The seats sit that message out.
Inviting one
Where to find it. Type @ in the composer. The menu lists the room's AIs first, then Guests… at the end. The same on the Mac, the web and the iPhone.
How to use it.
- Choose Guests…. The Invite a Guest picker opens.
- Search by model or provider. Guests you asked recently are at the top. Each row shows the price per million tokens in and out, or Free.
- Pick one. A chip such as Guest · Kimi K2 goes into your message. Write the rest and send.
Several guests in one message each answer once, in the order written. A reply from a guest shows its name, the model, its maker's mark and a Guest badge.
Which models
The picker groups models by where they run, and each group says which key carries it:
| Group | What it holds |
|---|---|
| OpenRouter | The whole catalogue |
| Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI | That maker's own models, on a key for it |
| Custom Endpoints | The model each of your own endpoints serves |
| Free Key | Today's free models |
| Ollama | Models on your Mac (Mac only, in discussions it runs) |
Whose key pays
A guest runs on the first of these that can carry it:
- Your Key: your own key for that provider, or your own endpoint.
- Team Key: the team's shared key for that provider.
- Our Keys: on credit, the team owner's in a team discussion, with the same margin as a seat on Our Keys.
- Free Key: for a free model, counted against the day's allowance.
A guest never uses another member's personal key, endpoint or command-line tool. Usage & Spend lists guests on their own Guests row.
In a team discussion with Company Pays: No Personal Keys or Subscriptions on (the default), the first step is skipped: a guest runs on the Team Key, then Our Keys on the team's credit, then Free Key, never on your own key or endpoint.
In a team discussion
Anyone who can write in a shared discussion can invite a guest, not only the person who started it. The guest runs on the team's key, then the team's credit (with Company Pays off: the asker's own key first, then the team's, then the team's credit), and a member's monthly budget applies as it does to their seats. A read-only discussion, a lapsed team or an auditor without the right to run refuses a guest the way it refuses a message. In a discussion that runs on its owner's Mac, the guest runs there, under that Mac's rules.
Turning guests off
Owners and admins can switch guests off for the whole team: Governance › Models & data › Allow Guest Models. It is on unless switched off. Blocked models and providers apply to guests too.
When not to use it. A guest's answer is not reviewed. For a change you need checked, ask the room.
