Depth is the chip beside the composer. It sets two things for the discussion in front of you: how many seats take part, and how many rounds they get. The same two dials have always been in Settings; Depth gives them names so the cost of a turn is something you pick rather than something you discover afterwards.
The presets
- Quick — one model, one pass. For a question you would not ask twice.
- Compare — two models, one round. A second opinion: the lead answers and one reviewer checks it.
- Consensus — everyone in the room, two rounds, reviewing until they agree or run out of rounds. This is the default.
- Deep — everyone in the room, four rounds. The same room, given twice as long to disagree. For work you cannot redo.
Default hands the discussion back to the account's settings, which is what a discussion uses when you have not chosen.
What it costs
Each seat that speaks is one model call per round, and a round re-sends the whole transcript, so cost grows faster than the round count. Quick is the cheapest turn the room can make; Deep is the most expensive. The plan's round limit still applies: a Deep discussion on the Free plan runs three rounds, not four.
Where it applies
Depth is set per discussion and travels with it, so a discussion opened on the Mac keeps its depth on the web and the phone. Changing it affects the next turn; it does not re-run what has already been said.
